Hill Laboratories are looking to expand their development capacity and so are looking for a Senior Technologist to join our Hamilton branch and be part of our innovative and successful Analytical Technology team. This is a permanent full time position in a dynamic, challenging and rewarding environment.
This rarely advertised role will have interactions with all levels of the business and span the breadth of our Environmental testing function. The key responsibilities of the role will be to carry out R&D projects, provide technical support to routine laboratory operations and to mentor others within the Technology team. R&D projects will be aimed at introducing new technologies and continuous improvement initiatives into operations, ensuring the company meets strategic objectives. Technical support will primarily involve troubleshooting methods, equipment and instrumentation.
- A Bachelor of Science (or higher), preferably majoring in Chemistry
- A minimum of 10 years relevant laboratory experience, including 5 years method development experience
- Excellent written and oral skills. Experience in scientific writing would be advantageous.
- Enthusiasm, drive and personal pride in producing quality work with an attention to detail
- Good time management and organisation skills.
The ideal candidate would have previous experience with a range of inorganic analytical instrumentation such as combustion, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, ion chromatography, FIA, UV-vis, and NIR, along with basic water and soil test methods; pH, nutrients (phosphate, nitrite, etc). They will have a track record of lateral, analytical thinking to solve problems and deliver innovative ideas and solutions. Previous experience troubleshooting mechanical and pneumatic systems would further strengthen an application. Ideally, they would also have an understanding of the use of results from a client perspective.
