The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

This national role is with the NZ eScience Infrastructure (NeSI), working closely with the wider national team to design and implement a suite of mostly open-source products underpinning and integrating NeSI’s services into high-performance computing and data analytics services. Contribute within a small team of software engineers in product development, translating researcher and sector needs into the evolution of NeSI’s services, implementing services which improve outcomes for researchers and stakeholders.

As a DevOps professional your ability to wrangle service-oriented infrastructure will be a key asset in the team and see you playing a major role in the design, build, operations, and evolution of the support infrastructure underpinning NeSI’s product delivery - from the my nesi user portal and associated microservices, through to domain-oriented virtual research environments integrating the full power of NeSI’s HPC platforms. You’ll partner closely with NeSI’s platforms team to ensure operational support processes are well aligned and that NeSI’s products and services are built and operated to high standards.

As a software engineer, your love of shaping technology will have a direct impact on the future of NeSI. You’ll bring your DevOps expertise to product integration and customisation efforts, ensuring CI/CD methodologies are followed, from infrastructure-as-code to continuous release. You’ll be immersed in all elements of adaptive and agile development practices, and be comfortable working across a multi-site distributed team. You’ll value open communication. You’ll be open to learning through coaching and mentoring and enjoy sharing with others to develop a team culture where each person thrives and performance is high. You’ll be curious about architectural design patterns and practices, seek to minimise technical debt, know when to build and know when to buy, and hold a strong interest in data and security.

Apply your experience and passion for technology working in a complex environment which incorporates development across web, APIs, federated identity, multi-factor security, relational and document databases, analysis and reporting pipelines, high performance and large scale computing and data systems, and cloud technologies.
